Young Parents

LAYC supports young parents through diaper distribution, guidance, and accompaniment so that they and their children grow as healthily as possible.

Diaper Distribution

We partner with other programs and sites at LAYC, including Rita Bright, Promotores, Social Services, Housing, Riverdale site, and Silver Spring site, to distribute diapers and baby items from our partner, Greater DC Diaper Bank.

Diaper and nursery bundles for youth 24 and under can sign up!

Young Parents Peer Program (YP3)

In collaboration with DC Network for Expectant and Parenting Teens (DC Next), Unity Health Care, and Healthy Teen Network, young parents meet for 1 hour a week for 8 weeks. The program includes group sessions led by peer educators who are young parents themselves and individual case management sessions to help participants meet their sexual reproductive health goals.

Parenting Journey Program

In Parenting Journey I, a small group of parents and caregivers meet for 2 hours a week for 12 weeks. The program includes activities, discussions, a family-style meal, and complimentary childcare.

The program is experiential which means you learn by doing, helping you develop knowledge and skills that support you as a parent and role model. By reflecting on your own childhood, you will mold your own style of parenting – one that reflects your personal vision and values.
