Latin American Youth Center Receives Federal Investment for Facility Renovation and Expanded Youth Services

Riverdale, MD – On June 8, 2026, Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, along with Joseph Pruden, Military and Veterans Affairs Liaison from Congressman Glenn Ivey’s office, visited Latin American Youth Center in Prince George’s County. During the visit, they highlighted $1,500,000 in direct federal funding secured to renovate the Riverdale Hills Building. This project is in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).

“I always say I want Marylanders to build lives where they can truly thrive. That means investing in our communities, so young people have a safe place to gather, celebrate, grow, and learn. I was so proud to partner with Senator Van Hollen to secure over $1 million in federal funding for Latin American Youth Center in Prince George’s County to better serve Prince Georgians,” said Senator Alsobrooks.

“When we invest in safe spaces where children can learn and grow, we’re investing in their long-term success. That’s why we worked to secure $1.5 million in federal funding to renovate Latin American Youth Center’s facility,” said U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

During the visit, the senators presented a ceremonial check to Lupi Quinteros-Grady, President & CEO of Latin American Youth Center, marking the official delivery of the funding. This investment is needed to continue to create safe and welcoming spaces that are inviting for our community.

For over 50 years, LAYC has been a cornerstone organization empowering youth through education, workforce development, and social services. This funding will allow LAYC to grow its impact and meet the community’s evolving needs.

“Investing in community spaces is not just about buildings—it is about creating places where young people and families feel safe, supported, and proud. Spaces that reflect their worth and potential,” said Lupi Quinteros-Grady.

Our mission is to empower all youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood through comprehensive and innovative programs that address youths’ social, academic, and career needs.
