This year, more than 500 youth and their families joined in the celebration. As always, LAYC’s Special Events Coordinator, along with all of her elves, did an amazing job putting together a plentiful feast for everyone to share along with dancing for all the adults and teenagers and special games and arts and crafts projects for all the young guests. Participants Henry Buruca and Jessica Cruz agreed- “There was great food, great music, and an awesome DJ and lots of kids- Everyone had a great time.”
And of course, LAYC welcomed two of the most important guests of all, who traveled a long way to celebrate the season: Santa and Mrs. Claus! All of the youth- and many adults- had the opportunity to take a photo with Santa and Ms. Claus and tell them all the gifts that they wanted this year! LAYC would like to share our sincere thanks to Robert Delissio General Manager of Best Buy in Columbia Heights and Lisbela Lopez from El Zol- 99.1- The Pedro Biaggi in the Morning Show for helping to make Santa’s Workshop one of the best ever!
The evening of fun and excitement was topped off with a gift for each young person who attended the event. Over 750 gifts were handed out this year. As expressed by Millie Perez, “This year, I truly got to feel like Santa Claus! Through the support of all our community friends and partners we were able to share the holiday spirit with everyone and no one who attended the party left empty handed.”
LAYC would like to express our sincerest thanks to the following organizations and individuals whose generosity and support made this joyous event possible:
- Inter-American Development Bank
- Covington & Burling Staff
- The Hispanic Bar Association of DC
- Best Buy
- and everyone who donated to the gift drive!
