A community school represents a set of partnerships between the school and community resources that support students and families in and beyond the classroom. The goal of a Community School is to integrate academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement, to improve to increase student academic achievement and ensure family well-being.
LAYC operates three Community School programs
- LAYC and DC Public Charter Schools: Next Step, YouthBuild, and LAYC Career Academy
- Cardozo Education Campus
- MMYC and Buck Lodge and William Wirt Middle Schools

DC Public Charter Schools LAYC Career Academy, YouthBuild, Next Step; and Cardozo Education Campus in the District of Columbia. Buck Lodge and William Wirt Middle Schools in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
