On Wednesday, October 24th 2007, LAYC's Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers received an award from the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs - the 2007 “Hispanic Heritage Awards”. In addition to a nice “trophy”, we received a Governor’s Citation from the Maryland Governor which states that ”To the Latin American Youth Center on behalf of the citizens of this State, in recognition of your commitment to the Hispanic community. Your outstanding work and dedication set a shining example for all people; and as the people of Maryland join in offering our gratitude and congratulations to you on your selection as the winner of the Hispanic Heritage Award in the Nonprofit category.” It is signed by Governor O’ Malley; Lt. Governor Brown and Secretary of State Schueple.
The award was presented at a luncheon ceremony in Baltimore with over 400 attendees. Sandra Martinez and Luisa Montero attended and accepted the award on behalf of LAYC/MMYC. LAYC/MMYC was the only nonprofit awardee. Congratulations LAYC/MMYC!
