The Montgomery County Judicial Center in Rockville has a new piece of art. The mural, by artist Joey Tomassoni, is titled "Youth Ascending the Stairs."
Tomassoni was assisted by 10 young men who participated in the Fresh StART program, which is coordinated by the Latin American Youth Center for teenagers who have been charged with crimes.
The mural, in the building's lobby, was unveiled during a brief ceremony last week attended by several circuit court judges, the young artists and their parents.
The program is one of the initiatives designed to steer youths away from delinquency after they are charged with crimes. Officials say projects such as the mural give teenagers an opportunity to build self-confidence and self-esteem.
