Langley Park Riverdale

Riverdale, Maryland
Center for Educational Partnership

Overview
The University of Maryland (UMD) and the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers (MMYC) have combined efforts to establish the Center for Educational Partnership (CEP) in Riverdale, Maryland.  CEP is located at the former Riverdale Hills Elementary School located at 6200 Sheridan Avenue.

The University of Maryland and the Maryland Multicultural Youth Center are creating a community-based organization that will foster academic enrichment, parenting support, adult education, recreational and cultural programs for the benefit of the surrounding community of Riverdale.

A key partner in this project is the University’s Engaged University Initiative (EUI).   EUI provides community-based activities at a number of schools in Prince George’s County including Nicholas Orem Middle School, Northwestern High School, William Wirt Middle School, Langley Park McCormick Elementary School and others.  The University goes beyond its land grant mission to a level of engaging the communities and enhancing the socio-economic quality of life.

The facility was home to a summer camp for approximately 28 local students.  The camp featured a mural project taught by Margo Humphrey a University of Maryland faculty member, and a gardening and cooking class by the University of Maryland’s Engaged University Initiative staff.  The Center for Educational Partnership will offer more programs in the Fall of 2006.
