Overview
The Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers in Langley Park (MMYC-LP) opened its doors in Prince George’s County in April 2006. The office is centrally located in downtown Langley Park on the corner of Riggs Road and University Boulevard
.

The program targets out-of-school and in-school youth to offer the following:

  • Case Management;
  • Group, family, and one-on-one counseling;
  • GED and Pre GED Instruction;
  • Adult Spanish literacy classes;
  • Gang Prevention and Intervention programs;
  • Summer enrichment activities;
  • Leadership and life skills workshops;
  • Job Readiness

Program Highlights:

  • MMYC has collaborated with George Washington University and the Council of Latino Agencies on the SAFER Latinos Project. The project calls for a four-year study to determine if targeted intervention in key social areas can lead to a reduction of youth violence in Langley Park. MMYC is tackling the intervention component of the project. For more information about the SAFER Latinos Project click on www.saferlatinos.org.
  • Serve over 591 youth from April 2006 to April 2008;
  • Partnered with Arts on the Block and other agencies to engage disconnected youth in the creation of a mural called “Turning Point”, located at the corner of New Hampshire Avenue and Piney Branch;
  • Partnered with Roosevelt High School to offer a series of leadership workshops to Latino students.
  • Provided life skills and leadership training to 50 5th and 6th graders using the Phoenix curriculum;
  • Partnered with Through the Kitchen Door to offer cooking and life skills class to female students of High Point High School;
  • Placed 51 combined job and internship placements to 33 young people in jobs;
  • Engaged 168 young people in summer programs in 2007;
  • 48 individuals served through SAFER case management;
  • Outreach to 8,044 youth and families from April 2006 06 to April 20008
