Foster Care Program

The goal of the Latin American Youth Center Foster Care Program is to recruit, train, and license Spanish speaking individuals interested in becoming foster parents of children under the care of the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency - CFSA.

The program is designed to:

  • Protect children who are removed from their own families,
  • Give foster children healthy family life experiences in licensed homes for temporary periods of time, and
  • Preserve the cultural identity of the children by placing them in culturally sensitive homes.

What population do we serve?
Children served are newborns to 18 year olds who have been removed from their biological family by the District of Columbia’s Child & Family Services due to child abuse or neglect.
Who can be a foster parent?

Any resident of the District of Columbia, 21 years or older who is willing to share their home with a child in need.

Foster parents will gain:

  • The satisfaction of helping a child in the community;
  • On going training, support and supervision; and
  • Financial support to cover the basic needs of a foster child placed in care, approximately $850 per child, per month.
