Teen Drop-In Center

Program Description

The goal of the Teen Center is to assist young people to acquire organizational and leadership skills;  strengthen their values; create a sense of community and promote cross cultural understanding; which will create a productive future in their lives and the community.

The Teen Center serves youth on a daily basis and is open Monday thru Friday plus some Saturdays.  The Teen Center also serves as a point of entry for many young people who later participate in other LAYC programs.

Objectives

  • To provide/promote diverse recreational activities for youth between the ages of 12-21 years old in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment.
  • To interact with the youth on a daily basis to identify needs that they may have and make the appropriate referrals to programs, activities or counseling according to each individual.

Eligibility

  • Must attend school on a regular basis
  • Must adhere to LAYC rules & regulations
  • Be between the ages of 12-21 years old

Benefits

The Teen Center offers the following recreational, educational, and sport activities:

  • Ping-Pong games, Pool games, Fuzz-ball games, and Domino games;
  • Weight-Lifting: learning the importance of keeping their bodies and mind fit;
  • Soccer Teams: promoting sportsmanship between youth, positive moral and educational development, and occupational improvement of the athletes;
  • Field Trips/Picnics: for the participants to experience/sense a different kind of environment in a safe, drug & alcohol free zone;
  • Mentoring: one on one counseling or group counseling and referrals to LAYC’s Social Services division;
  • Movie Night: for the participants who have improved academically or whose behavior has been exceptional at the Teen Center;
  • Physical Screening/Health Care Services (free of charge)
  • Summer Youth Employment Registration

Program Hours

The activities are offered after school from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday and some weekends during the summer.
