Program Description

The Stages of Life Program (SOL) is an abstinence-based program that promotes teen pregnancy prevention as a key component to the completion of education. The SOL Program, operated by LAYC’s Service Corps members, organizes health education workshops, health fairs, after-school and parent-involvement activities for elementary school students.

Primary Goals

  • To empower students by boosting their self- esteem, making them more aware of their choices, and how to change their surroundings by showing a positive attitude and voicing their beliefs
  • To employ effective means of preventing pregnancy and establishing comprehensive and integrated approaches to the delivery of services to students and their families

Objectives

  • Provide abstinence and self-esteem workshops to 5th through 8th grade students
  • Implement a holistic approach to adolescent pregnancy prevention in the elementary schools utilizing social skill enhancement programs during and after school
  • Educate parents and guardians, focusing on adolescent development, including communication, sexuality, and inter- generational conflict resolution
  • Increase the public awareness of community residents by implementing a public health awareness campaign
  • Improve the academic achievement for elementary school students through self- realization and goal setting lessons
