In-School DOES Program
The In-School Program is designed to teach, encourage and challenge participants to learn in a centered and nurturing environment. The program is designed to empower students with the ability and desire to thrive as life long learrners, by fulfilling their intellectual, academic potential, applying their knowledge and skills to become contributing, responsible citizens of a radidly changing, diverse community.
Benefits:
The In-School Program participants will get the following benefits:
- Participants will automatically register for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP);
- Participants will experience hands on work of the world (SYEP);
- Participants will get paid $5.15 per hour; and
- Participants will work 7 hours a week.

Program Objectives:
- To assure that youth move through a pregession of trainings and hands on learning that will buil their skills base knowledge thus fulfilling the “passport to work” mission;
- To teach different life skills subjects such as: Learn, Do & Teach, Mentoring, Internships, College Prep. and Computer Skills;
- To assist in homework and projects of different academic subjects;
- To help build and riase student’s self esteem and motivate them to succeed;
- To place students in different agencies throughout the community to gain work experience while finishing their first year of training; and
- To refer student for counseling.
Eligibility:
- Register at DOES;
- Must attend school on a regular basis;
- Must adhere to LAYC rules and regulations; and
- Must be between the ages of 14-18 years old.
