Computer Literacy Program

Mission:
To provide computer training and knowledge to young and adult people of our community.

Vision:
To enable youth and adults to enter the world of computer technology and enhance their abilities, employability and ultimately, self sufficiency.

Goal:
The main goal of the Computer Literacy Program is to prepare youth and adults to use computers and the Internet effectively both in their academic careers, jobs and later in life. Students learn advanced technologies and work in an environment that simulates a work situation.

The objective of this program is to improve the employability and marketability of our clients. In the process, the program will demystify computers in a way that improves communication between youth and their parents. The computer class also serves as an opportunity for parents to become familiar with, and skilled in some of the most frequently used software applications on the market today.

With personal assistants guiding you through the class, LAYC computer classes provide a unique environment for learning more about your PC computer.

Certifications:

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the premier Microsoft desktop certification, a globally recognized standard for demonstrating desktop skills.

We provide preparation courses for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) tests. In order to fully prepare for the tests you normally need to take the 50 hour course. You need to take a course for each of the Microsoft Programs for example Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Click here to obtain more information about the Microsoft Office Specialist tests.

The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) is the first globally accepted, standards-based, validated certification program for basic computing skills and is often the first certification individuals pursue to show competence in computer skills. Becoming IC3 certified demonstrates that you possess the knowledge required for basic use of computer hardware, software, and the Internet.

IC3 certification requires passing three exams:
