Thegoal of LAYC’s Responsible Fatherhood Program is to increase the ability of young fathers to be responsible and involved parents who have meaningful relationships with their children. These fathers will be emotionally and financially supportive of their children and partners/spouses, and able to make healthy decisions for themselves, their family, and their community. The Program embraces a positive youth development model and provides a range of services including: effective parenting, educational, and life skills development; domestic violence prevention and conflict resolution; substance abuse prevention; mentoring; childcare; individual case management; family events; and information and referrals to health care, daycare, housing, employment, legal aid, and other services. Additionally, self-esteem development, decision-making, and emphasis on school completion will be addressed through all the skills training Participants who successfully complete the program are eligible to join the Dad’s Club, which encourages personal growth and creative expression through collaboration on dynamic projects in media, the arts, and leadership development. The LAYC Responsible Fatherhood Program has been implemented at LAYC since October 2006. LAYC’ Responsible Fatherhood Program primarily works with adolescent and youngfathers, ages 11 to 24 years old. The program is also open to all eligiblepersons, regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or religion. Participant Eligibility

The Responsible Fatherhood Program is one of the few programs in Washington, DC providing multilingual, culturally competent services to young fathers in both Spanish and English. The project allows LAYC to bring essential parenting development skills and other assistance to a target group of young parents who are greatly in need of these services and have few, if any, options to receive this level of support.
