LAYC offers computer services as well as computer training and knowledge to young people and adults in our community in order to enable youth and adults to enter the world of computer technology and enhance their abilities, employability and ultimately, self sufficiency. The main goal of the Computer Technology Learning Center is to prepare youth and adults to use computers and the Internet effectively both in their academic careers, jobs and later in life. Students learn advanced technologies and work in an environment that simulates a work situation. This program will also help improve the employability and marketability of LAYC clients. Certifications
The goal of this 60 hour Microsoft MCAS Office 2007 Certification training course is to provide information technology professionals expertise with the Microsoft Office suite of business productivity programs. This is a performance-based course designed upon education-job-related tasks a student or professional must perform.
The Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) is a Microsoft Business Certification used to validate software application proficiency with the Microsoft Office 2007 applications. Exam validation is available for Microsoft Word 2007, Excel 2007, Outlook 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Access 2007, and Vista Business.
To earn MCAS certification you need to pass one of the five exams available. After passing an individual exam, a person becomes an MCAS in the particular software application they took the exam in. After passing the exam, Microsoft sends each candidate a very nice certificate, a welcome kit, and the individual can use the logo on their resume and other personal documents.
Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the premier Microsoft desktop certification, a globally recognized standard for demonstrating desktop skills.
We provide preparation courses for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) tests. In order to fully prepare for the tests you normally need to take the 60 hour course. You need to take a course for each of the Microsoft Programs for example Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Click here to obtain more information about the Microsoft Office Specialist tests.
The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3) is the first globally accepted, standards-based, validated certification program for basic computing skills and is often the first certification individuals pursue to show competence in computer skills. Becoming IC3 certified demonstrates that you possess the knowledge required for basic use of computer hardware, software, and the Internet.
IC3 certification requires passing three exams:
- Computer Fundamentals (Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Using an Operating System)
- Key Applications (Common Program Functions, Word Processing Functions, Spreadsheet Functions)
- Living Online (Networks and the Internet, Electronic Mail, Using the Internet, the Impact of Computing and the Internet on Society)
