It's prom season, and young ladies at the Latin American Youth Center are attending in style!LAYC's first Prom Dress Give-Away offered over 100 dresses and matching accessories. Girls enrolled in various LAYC programs tried on dresses, shoes and more while enjoying refreshments and chances to win great prizes. The Prom Dress Give-Away was hosted by LAYC's Family-to-Family Mentoring program, which helps low-income families reduce their dependency on welfare and social services by providing leadership training, budget management, job search skill building, and referrals to many other needed supports. Sixty dresses were selected by 35 girls to be used at proms and graduations. Said Veronica Diaz-Perez, who attends Cardozo High School: "It's hard to find a dress for your prom--and expensive! This event was a lot of fun, and I have a great dress for my prom." |
