The Upward Bound Program is one of the national, federally funded educational programs that is designed to prepare students for post-secondary education.  The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in high school and ultimately in their post secondary education pursuit. MMYC Upward Bound serves two high schools in Montgomery County, Wheaton High School and Albert Einstein High School.  The program is in partnership with Montgomery Community College at Takoma Park Campus.

Upward Bound consist of three components:

 

  • Summer Component: six weeks of instruction at Montgomery College Takoma Park covering core subjects, SAT classes, counseling workshops and enrichment activities;
  • Saturday Academy (academic year): weekly ½ day supplemental education in English, Math and Science;
  • Tutoring (year round): Two days/week, after school. Required for students with a C or below until grades improve, otherwise optional.

 

Additional services:

 

  • Laboratory sciences;
  • Foreign language instruction;
  • Cultural and Educational activities;
  • Assistance in completing college entrance and financial aid application;
  • Parent workshops.
