LAYC’s Digital Pathways Program (DPP) offers job readiness training (JRT) and life skills training, job placement services, IT certification, GED preparation, and support services to out-of-school youth generally between the ages 16-24. The program aims to equip youth with the skills and credentials needed to obtain and retain meaningful employment and/or enter post secondary education. The Job Developer will implement and enhance a comprehensive job readiness curriculum that prepares students for employment, creates internship opportunities, collaborates with employers to ensure a successful internship placement, and assists youth in their process of obtaining full time employment.
- Organize, implement and enhance the curriculum for JRT classes.
- Provide individualized and group instruction utilizing various teaching methods to accommodate. .different learning styles and students with IEP’s.
- Provide one-on-one career counseling to participants, including resume review and working on any potential challenges to employment.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with potential employers.
- Provide feedback on participants’ preparation for employment and internship opportunities.
- Assist with recruitment, enrollment, overall retention, and marketing of the DPP program as needed.
- Develop positive, ongoing relationships with youth and families.
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers and other experiential activities.
- Meet with participants to evaluate progress of goals and help them identify and resolve obstacles to those goals.
- Maintain a current list of “active” employers, and those to follow up with, which can be engaged in various opportunities including events, presentations, internships.
- Manage internal and external internship programs, including applications, payment process, evaluations, and follow up.
- Provides follow-up services with employed participants, including conflict resolution with employers and career pathway counseling.
- Prepare monthly statistics and narrative reports as required by utilizing LAYC’s ETO database to keep record of youth progress by recording efforts and outcomes of participants.
- Collect data from employer partners related to industry needs and skills and match job skills with applicant qualifications.
- Attend professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to improve professional competence.
- Serves as a community liaison networking with community associations, private employers, city-wide agencies, and industry representatives.
- Attend staff meetings and take an active role in organizational activities.
- Performs other activities specifically assigned by the Program Manager/Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Technology, Human Services, or related field.
- At least two-years experience working with at-risk youth populations.
- Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as described.
- Ability to implement appropriate behavioral management techniques.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English (Spanish preferred)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekends.
- Complete medical, background, criminal and child abuse clearances.
- Computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, academic, and disability backgrounds.
- Knowledge of and experience in using student learning outcomes to promote student learning.
- The willingness and desire to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to take on additional responsibilities.
- A positive attitude and an earnest interest in providing quality instruction to our program participants.
- Obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Adheres to all LAYC personnel policies.
This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
